“The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces.” – Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program
At HeyYa, we believe exploring your city should be fun, easy, and accessible for everyone. That’s why we’re proud to share that HeyYa is now a member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program — and even more exciting, we are the first car rental company in Canada to join the program.
For those who may not be familiar, the Sunflower Program helps people with hidden disabilities such as autism, chronic pain, anxiety, or hearing and vision impairments discreetly indicate that they may need a little extra time, patience, or support. By wearing the sunflower symbol, individuals can communicate their needs without having to explain them out loud.
As part of the program, our team has received training to recognize and support guests who choose to wear the sunflower. Whether it’s offering a slower check-in, taking extra time to explain cart features, or simply leading with more empathy and awareness, we’re committed to ensuring every guest feels comfortable, welcomed, and seen.
We know that accessibility goes beyond ramps and buttons. It’s about creating experiences that include everyone. Our street legal electric carts already make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to explore Vancouver and Victoria, and joining the Sunflower Program is another step toward that mission.
So next time you’re cruising with HeyYa, know that we’ve got your back and your comfort in mind. Because exploring freely should truly mean freely for everyone.
